Hello,
I am Nurjannah Dalilah a student from G6 class which taught by Dr Dayang
Salwani. The first class with Dr Dayang was so much fun as I was able to gain
new knowledge and interesting perspectives in biochemistry. Firstly, I can
define what biochemistry is. Biochemistry is the discipline that uses the
principles and language of chemistry to explain biology. Moreover, biochemistry describe the
structure, organization, and function of living organisms in molecular terms.
In order to understand the life on the molecular level, we must first have a
knowledge of the chemical structures of biological molecules, biological function
of the molecules and understanding of bioenergetics – study of energy flow in
cells.
Furthermore, biochemistry can be
divided into three areas of study. First, conformational which investigate structure and three-dimensional arrangements of biomolecules, for instance
macromolecules and proteins structure. Second, metabolism that convey about
biochemical pathways like Kreb Cycle, energy production and utilization such as
glycolysis. Third is informational which scrutinize about the language for
communication inside and between cells, for example signal transduction.
Besides that, biochemistry also play
a vital role and importance in medicine and clinical. With the technical of
this biochemistry, we able to diagnostic and monitoring of diseases and
discover the development of new and improved antibiotics and medications such
as chemotherapy agents and designer drugs. While in the agriculture field, with
the biochemistry knowledge, we able to establish herbicides and pesticides
production and can be used in transgenic crops. Whereas in industry, with the biochemistry
research discipline which applicable to form the production of industrial and
research materials like enzyme.
I like the way Dr Dayang Salwani
teach us in the class. The lecture was contented and I able to understand
easily with information stated in the lecture slide. I look forward to learning
more about biochemistry because to me this is important and the scope is so
rich that it brings many benefits to our daily life.
